AFTERNOON SESSION: CLINICAL FORUMS AND WORKSHOP 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Clinical Forums were designed to provide opportunities for professionals to dialogue on topics relevant to the theoretical and clinical work being conducted in the Integrative Psychotherapy community today. Convened by moderators whose jobs will be to organize time and help keep the discussion flowing and on topic, Clinical Forums will be divided into three 50-60 minute segments: (1) A 15 - 20 minute presentation on the stated topic, followed by a 45-minute roundtable. (2) A piece of live therapy, with a volunteer from the audience, following which the therapist will offer a self-critique. (3) Panelists addressing the question, What would you have done differently? This question has been designed to stimulate a lively discussion between the panelists and the audience.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES
James R. Allen, MD, FRCP(C), MPH – Jim is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Rainbolt Family Chair in Child-Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City and president-elect of the International Transactional Analysis Association. In 1998, Jim and Barbara, his late wife and partner, were presented an Eric Berne Memorial Award for Theory from the ITAA. An updated and annotated collection of their papers will be published as THERAPEUTIC JOURNEY: PRACTICE AND LIFE in 2003 by TA Publishers, Oakland, CA.
Vincent E. Barone, MHS,CAC,LPC – Vincent has over thirty years experience working in almost every area of the addiction field, in the southeastern part of Pennsylvania. For most of his career his clients were mandated for treatment through the criminal court system for DUI, spousal abuse, drug use and possession.
Ann Bowman, MSN, RNCS, LMHC – Ann is a Clinical Nurse Specialist, faculty member of the Indianapolis Gestalt Institute, and a member the Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapy. She has studied Integrative Psychotherapy with Richard Erskine for the past eight years and, as a result, has included a relational approach in her clinical work. Ann, who has taught nationally and internationally, resides in Indianapolis, Indiana with her husband, Charlie, and their children.
Charles Bowman, MS – Charlie is Co-President of the Indianapolis Gestalt Institute, and Past President of the Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapy. He has taught Gestalt therapy nationally and internationally, specializing in integrating the concepts of Integrative Psychotherapy into a relational approach to Gestalt therapy. His home, which he shares with his wife, Ann (see above), is in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Tom Burton, CTA -- Tom is a Certified Transactional Analysts and a Registered Clinical Psychotherapist in England, working in Manchester. He utilizes theories and concepts from many approaches, the main threads being attachment and child development. He promotes awareness and development of the "real" self through contact-in-relationship therapy.
Nancy D. Campbell, Ph.D., HSPP, LMFT – Nancy is Director of Clinical Training in Marriage and Family Therapy and assistant Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling at Christian Theological Seminary, and a licensed psychologist and marriage and family therapist in private practice in Indianapolis. She has extensive experience in the mental health and substance abuse fields, and has a special interest in the interface of psychology and spirituality, spiritual direction and formation, and the mystical/contemplative dimension of the spiritual life.
Wayne Carpenter, M.Div. – Wayne lives and works in Fort Collins, Colorado. He is a Teaching and Supervising Member of the International Transactional Analysis Association, and has studied with Richard Erskine and Rebecca Trautmann.
Fred C. Clark, M.Div. – Fred is a Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst and a certified clinical health counselor in private practice in Cheshire, CT. He is a member of the Professional Development Seminar, Kent, CT. He also is a teacher of graduate courses on "Abuse of the Young," and Human Sexuality and Gender Development, and has authored several clinical articles in the Transactional Analysis Journal.
David Conlin, MSW RSW – David is a registered social worker in private practice in Vancouver, BC. He has 30 years experience in psychotherapy and mental health and expertise in the areas of HIV/AIDS, sexual orientation, trauma and group therapy. He was an honorary lecturer at the School of Social Work, UBC, and belongs to the American Orthopsychiatric Association, the Canadian Group Psychotherapy Association and the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association.
Grover E. Criswell, M.Div., LPCC, CGPG – Grover is a pastoral psychotherapist who has been in practice since 1968 in Dayton, Ohio. A Certified Group Psychotherapist, he has had extensive training in Integrative Psychotherapy with Richard Erskine. He remains an active member of the American Academy of Psychotherapists, and is a past president of that organization.
Jesus Cuadra Pérez, PTSTA – Jesus is a physicist and clinical psychologist in private practice in Zaragoza, Spain. He teaches Transactional Analysis from a clinical focus in Zaragoza, Lugo and Madrid, and maintains a website at www.en-contacto.net .
Joan Adria D'Amico, CSW, MA, BCD – Joan has been a practicing psychotherapist for over two decades in Croton on Hudson, NY. As an Integrative Psychotherapist, she specializes in individual, group, and couples therapy, and works as a supervisor and consultant. One of the many things she has done was to work with the Westchester County prison system. She is a Member of the Board of Trustees of the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association, and a member of the Professional Development Seminar, Kent, CT.
Concepción de Diego – Conchita is a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist who lives and practices in Madrid, Spain. She is the director of “Ethos,” PTSAT member of ITAA, EATA, ALAT and APPHAT, a Redecision Therapist, a Familiar Therapist, Family Master for the Superior Institute of Family Counsels, Madrid, Spain, member and practitioner of the International Association of Group Psychotherapy, certified in EMDR, a founding member of the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association, and an associate of the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy, New York.
Alexis DiVincenti – Alexis, a psychotherapist practicing in New York City, is the Executive Director of the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association, and a member of the Editorial Board of the Transactional Analysis Journal. She has co-authored, with Damon Wadsworth, "Core Concepts of Transactional Analysis: An Opportunity Born in Struggle" which will appear in an upcoming special issue of the TAJ on the Core Concepts of Transactional Analysis.
Mary Dunleavy, MA, CSW, CASAC – Mary works in the area of addictions and mental health at St. Vincent's Hospital in Staten Island, where she's been for the last 10 years. She is also a 25-year member of the live in "core" community in a system of shelters for women in the New York area called Providence House.
Richard G. Erskine, Ph.D. – Richard is the Training Director of the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy in New York City, and the President of the Board of Trustees of the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association. He is a clinical psychologist who, for over three decades, has been in private practice and been teaching in the United States as well as many other countries. He is an award winning theoretician and a prolific writer, authoring many published articles and books. Landy Gobes, MSW – Landy is in private practice in psychotherapy and psychotherapy training in West Hartford, CT. She is a member of the Professional Development Seminar of the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy, and is a founding member of the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association.
Paul Guistolise, LCPC CRADC – Paul is a psychotherapist and a trainer working and living in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He has been working in the field for almost 30 years, many of these years as the director of a hospital-affiliated mental health center. His private practice includes individuals, couples, and groups, and he trains doctoral candidates through an ongoing psychotherapy seminar.
Elena M. Guarrella, Ph.D. – Elena is a psychologist, psychotherapist, Familiar Councellor, and PTSTA (ITAA), who works in Rome and other Italian cities with individuals, couples and groups. She is a founding member of the Italian Institute for Integrative Transactional Analysis in Rome, where she conducts basic integrative training courses with Richard Erskine, and advanced training in Transactional Analysis. Since 1990, Elena has been a trainer in the School for Familiar Counsellors, offering a personal psychodramatic supervision model. Elena is the co-author of three books.
John Hallett, MA, R.Psych. – John is a registered psychologist in private practice in Vancouver, BC, with 27 years experience in psychotherapy and mental health. He has trained extensively in Transactional Analysis and Integrative Psychotherapy and specializes in individual and group therapy. John has completed both levels of EMDR training and taken further EMDR workshops especially in performance enhancement. He has over 20 years experience providing therapy supervision and consultation, and is a founding member of Vancouver Integrative Psychotherapists.
Karen Hallett, MA – Karen has a Masters in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia. She has worked largely for non-profit organizations serving marginalized populations including street youth, prison inmates, and First Nations people. Her areas of expertise include addictions, sexual abuse and family traumas, and couples therapy. She has specialized training in Imago Relationship Therapy and EMDR.
Burkhard Hofmann, MD, Ph.D. -- Burkhard practices Integrative Psychotherapy in Hamburg, Germany, in addition to doing supervision and consultation. He is a member of the Professional Development Seminar, Kent, CT, and is a founding member of the International Integrative Association. Burkhard is a fine classical musician.
Anthony F. Jannetti, Ph.D. – Anthony, a licensed clinical psychologist at Kaiser Permanente, Unions City, CA, works with chemical dependence treatment with adult and adolescent populations and maintains a private practice in both San Francisco and Redwood City, CA. Recently, he has begun treating men molested as children. He has studied Integrative Psychotherapy for the past 20 years, and uses this modality with both long and short-term cases.
Sharon A. Kalinko, MA -- Sharon has been in private practice as a psychotherapist for 22 years in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is a Certified Transactional Analyst and Integrative Psychotherapist, and works with adults in individual, marital, family and group therapy.

Elayne J. King, Ph. D. – Elayne is in practice in Port Jefferson, New York. She works with "big T" and "little T" clients, individually, with couples and with families. In her practice as an Integrative Psychotherapist she utilizes Body/ Mind/ Energy processes; e.g. EMDR, Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Hypnotherapy.
Peter L. Kingan, Ph.D . – Peter is a licensed psychologist and certified group psychotherapist in general private practice in Patchogue, Long Island, New York. He has particular interest in trauma survivors, persons in cancer treatment, and gay and lesbian concerns. He has training in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, thought field therapy, and Integrative

Ray Little, CTA – Ray maintains a private psychotherapy practice in London, UK, where he works with individuals and runs groups, and supervises and teaches counsellors and psychotherapists in both London and Edinburgh, Scotland. He is currently interested in integrating, with a relationship approach to Transactional Analysis, other models of psychotherapy, particularly British object relations. This is with a view to understanding and working with unconscious and transferential processes. Ray is the author of articles on schizoid processes and the therapy of shame.
Joan B. Lourie, M.Ed., LCPC – Joan is a long time Clinical Member of the International Transactional Analysis Association, and an Associate of the Instate for Integrative Psychotherapy, NY. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Integrative Association, and also a member of the Professional Development Seminar, Kent, CT. Olivier Lusti, MD – Olivier is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist in private practice in Geneva, Switzerland, where he lives with his wife and children. He is an Integrative Psychotherapist.
Elena Martin de Heroes, PH – Elena is a psychologist who works in a private center, as well as in a pediatric center in Madrid, Spain. She specializes in both children and adults.
Jose Manuel Martinez Rodriguez, MD – Pepe is a psychiatrist and the Medical Director of Centro Hospital Benito Menni in Valladolid, Spain, and also an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Valladolid, Spain. In addition to all these duties, he is the President of the Association of Professional Humanistic Psychology and Transactional Analysis.
Amaia Mauriz Etxabe, Psych. Lic. – Amaia is in private practice in Spain, and the Director of the Bios Center. She is a Clinical Member of the Spanish International Transactional Analysis Association. Working with adults in individual and group settings, she also supervises groups in several other institutions. In addition, Amaia is part of a group doing research in grief reactions and preventative treatment.
Thomas A. McElfresch, Psy.D. – Tom is a Professor of Mental Health at Sinclair College and a Clinical Associate Professor at the Wright State University School of Professional Psychology in Dayton, Ohio. He maintains a part-time private practice, and has been a member of the Dayton Integrative Psychotherapy group, led by Richard Erskine.
Carol Merle-Fishman, MA – Carol, a Clinical Member of the International Transactional Analysis Association, is an Integrative Psychotherapist in private practice in Cortlandt Manor, NY. She is also a Certified Music Therapist, and the co-author of THE MUSIC WITHIN YOU. Janet P. Moursund, Ph.D . – Jan is Associate Professor Emeritus at the University of Oregon, and also has maintained a part-time psychotherapy private practice. She has authored or co-authored a number of books in the fields of psychotherapy and statistical research, including THE PROCESS OF COUNSELING AND THERAPY, and STATISTICS FOR THE TERRIFIED. Peggy Nelson, MS – Peg is a licensed professional counselor in private practice in Brighton and Fort Collins, CO, specializing in grief, psychotherapy with groups, organizational development and consulting. She is the retired Associate Dean of Students, University of Wyoming.
Ronald W. Ohlson, Ph.D. – Ron, a Clinical Psychologist and a Fellow of the Academy of Clinical Psychology, has maintained a private practice in Anchorage, AL, for thirty years. His specialty is the application of hypnosis to overcome the fear of flying as well as other issues. He has published a CD designed to OVERCOME THE FEAR OF FLYING.
Marye O'Reilly-Knapp, DNSc . – Marye is a psychotherapist in private practice in Devon, PA, and an assistant professor in the School of Nursing at Widener University. An associate of the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy, NY, Marye is a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Psychotherapy Association, and a member of the Professional Development Seminar in Kent, CT. Mitch Rouzie, MSW, CSWR – Mitch currently works with members of the New York City Fire Department, a position he assumed following the events of 09/11/2001. He received his MSW from the University of Michigan in 1988, and has provided psychotherapy, EAP services, and training for individuals and organizations. Mitch has been involved with Integrative Psychotherapy over the past 16 years.
Mario C. Salvador, Lic. Psychologist – Mario, a psychotherapist and organizational consultant, has run a private practice in Lugo, Galicia (Spain) since 1986. Lise Small MA – Lise is an associate of the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy, New York, and a Clinical Member of the International Transactional Analysis Association. She was a founding member of the French Transactional Analysis Association, and is vice-president of European Association of Transactional Analysis, In her private practice in Paris, France, she works with English and French-speaking clients, teaches, and runs a training program in Integrative Psychotherapy.
Shirley Spitz, MA – Shirley is a registered Integrative Psychotherapist and Chartered Clinical Psychologist who has been in the field of mental health for nearly 30 years. She lives and works in London, England. Initially, she trained in marital and family therapy in South Africa where she resided and then worked. Shirley is a founding member of the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association who trained extensively with Richard Erskine and Rebecca Trautmann in South Africa and America.
Lindsay Stewart, MSW, RSW – Lindsay has run a private practice in Vancouver, Canada for the past 12 years. Previously, he worked as a family and children's therapist in community mental health. Over the past decade, she has added the specialty of working with the deaf and hard of hearing population.
Gudrun Stummer, MSc – Gudrun maintains a private practice in Manchester, England. She has a background in Transactional Analysis. Special interests are treatment of addictions and cross cultural psychotherapy.
Rebecca L. Trautmann, RN, MSW – Rebecca has had a general psychotherapy practice in New York City since 1976 and co-leads the training programs at the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy. Prior to becoming a clinical social worker, she worked as a psychiatric nurse at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Maryland and at Lutheran Medical Center, St. Louis, MO. From 1973-1975 she was editor of the Transactional Analysis Journal, and has co-authored several articles with Richard Erskine, and a book, BEYOND EMPATHY: A THERAPY OF CONTACT IN RELATIONSHIP, with Richard Erskine and Janet Moursund.
Kathryn Van der Heiden, MS MAT LPCC CGP --- Kathryn is a psychotherapist who has been in private practice since 1980 in Dayton, Ohio. She has trained at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland, in Zurich at the Jungian Institute and in Bioenergetic psychotherapy, in addition to extensive training in Integrative Psychotherapy with Richard Erskine. She is the current president of the American Academy of Psychotherapists, in which she has long been an active member.
Lee Verner, MA – Lee is licensed as a Clinical Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist, and has had a private practice for 23 years in the Indianapolis area. He enjoyed teaching and supervising in various training programs through the years, both in Indiana and in California. The effect of cumulative trauma, and the healing nature of a long-term therapeutic relationship are of special interest to Lee.
Damon Wadsworth, MA, CTA – Damon is a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association, and a long-term member of the Professional Development Seminar of Kent, CT. He is a Provisional Teacher and Supervising Transactional Analyst, living and working in private practice in New York. He has devoted much time to a deep and broad study of the works of Eric Berne and Richard Erskine.
Martha Walrath, RN, SCW, BCD – Marty is a Clinical Member of the International Transactional Analysis Association and a long-time member of the Professional Development Seminar, Kent, CT. She has over 25 years experience as a psychotherapist in upstate New York, and has had advanced training in Gestalt, Espressive Arts. She is a life-long spiritual journeyer.
Sandra Watson – Sandra is a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist with a private practice in Peterborough, UK. Her professional journey began with training in psychodynamic counselling, followed by Gestalt psychotherapy, CDP, and training workshops in Integrative Psychotherapy with Richard Erskine. Sandra's practice includes supervision and long-term therapy. She also utilizes a short-term—5 sessions maximum—therapy model for work with funded referrals through Employee Assistance Agencies.
Irving Weisberg, Ph.D. – Irv is Director of Treatment at the Psychoanalytic Center for Communicative Education in New York City. He is the editor of the International Journal of Communicative Psychoanalysis. He is in private practice in New York City.
Marian Weisberg, CSW – Marian is a certified social worker in private practice in New York City. She is a member of the board of trustees of the Eastern Regional Transactional Analysis Association, former member of the board of trustees of the International Transactional Analysis Association, and an NGO representative at the United Nations. Her most recent article: Generational Impact of Mass Trauma, appeared in"Jihad and Sacred Vengeance" (2002). Marian is a clinical and teaching member of ITAA.
Reverend Judith E. Wright, Psy.D – Judith has 29 years experience as a psychotherapist, specializing in working with children. She is currently serving the Unitarian-Universalist Parish of Northborough, Massachusetts as Parish Minister. She trained with Richard Erskine and Rebecca Trautmann in Integrative Psychotherapy for 8 years in Kent, CT.
